Education Offerings for 2015-2016

The ASO education programs offer the opportunity to experience live classical music. Through live performance and community engagement initiatives we provide powerful, enriching hands-on experiences both in the classroom and in the concert hall. We strive to create strong lasting relationships with schools, teachers and the community that will develop arts initiatives that complement and become part of students’ core curriculum.
Explorer Concerts (pre K-2nd grade)

Dynamic interactive concerts that give an exciting introduction to the world of music for our youngest listeners. Put on your Explorer hat and let's explore the world of the symphony orchestra. These concerts are offered at various locations within the Greater Birmingham area.

Young People’s Concerts (3rd – 6th grade)
These concerts give students a comprehensive concert experience that encourages creativity, integrates school curricula, teaches sophisticated musical concepts, and fosters a lifelong love of music.

An American Salute. Learn about the symphony orchestra through a celebration of American music. This program will features highlights of some of the country’s most cherished natural wonders and treasured national shrines from coast to coast.
How to Build an Orchestra – Thursday, February 11th | 10 AM | BJCC
Come get to know all the families in the orchestra. Together we’ll learn how all the pieces fit together to create your Alabama Symphony Orchestra!
Coffee Concerts (7th – 12th grade)
Join the world-class musicians of the ASO in the beautiful Alys Stephens Center for this informative journey through some of the most iconic music in the classical repertoire.
