On this performance, we welcome Tito Muñoz. Maestro Muñoz puts together a program of bold voices. Igor Stravinsky's "Dumbarton Oaks" was commissioned by the Bliss family in the 1930s and named after their estate in Washington DC. It is in a neo-classical style, all elegant proportions and dancing rhythms but with a certain weight and gravity to it. Argentinian pianist Ingrid Fliter will take the piano for Mendelssohn's effervescent Piano Concerto No. 1, written when the young composer was just 21. The final piece is Robert Schumann's First Symphony, which uses strong rhetoric and is almost masculine in its theme.
