Roger James Violin
Born in Frederick, Maryland, Roger received his Bachelor of Music Degree from Northern Illinois University in 1975. He has studied with Pierre Menard, Charles Castleman and Emmanuel Vardi.
Prior to joining the Alabama Symphony Orchestra in 1985, Roger had been a member of the South Dakota Symphony, the Dakota Quartet and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. He has participated in the Grand Teton Music Festival and the Victoria Bach Festival. Roger is also an active violin instructor and has attended several seminars dedicated to the Suzuki Talent Education method.
Roger is an avid film buff and a man of eclectic musical tastes. For two years he was a fiddler in a local Cajun band and has learned enough about old time music to play at occasional local dances. Through that exposure he and his wife Linda became interested in Contra Dancing and now attend two or three dances a month.
His daughter Sarah is a graduate of Reed College and Simmons College and resides in California with her husband Eben.
