Jinsong Gao has been the Associate-Concertmaster of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra since 1999.  Born in Beijing, China, began to study the violin at the age of five, studied at the attached primary school, middle school and college of the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, China. He received a full scholarship from the Manhattan School of Music in New York City where he obtained a bachelor's degree. After graduated from the Manhattan School of Music, he was enrolled at the Graduate School of Music of the University of Maryland, where he received a full scholarship and served as a teaching assistant. Mr. Gao later received a master's degree in Orchestral Studies jointly established by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and Wayne State University. In 1999, he was admitted as the Associate Concertmaster of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra. During his period of study, he was taught by music masters and educators such as: Wang Zhenshan, professor at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, China; Lucie Robert, professor of violin at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City; Lewis Kaplan, violin professor of the Juilliard School; Geoff Applegate; Josef Gingold; Ruggiero Ricci; Arnold Steinhardt; Peter Winograd; Joel Smirnoff; Menahem Pressler; Jeffrey Cohen, etc. He also studied under the Guarneri String Quartet and the American String Quartet; Performed under the baton of Neeme Yarvi, Leonard Slatkin, Kurt Masur, Joanne Faletta, Marin Alsop, David Gilbert, Chen Zuohuang, Zheng Xiaoying, Tan Lihua, Lv Jia, Fu Renchang, Li Xincao, etc.

Mr. Gao was awarded the “Salon de Virtuosi” in New York City, and held a solo concert at Steinway Hall in Manhattan. He was a prize winner in the First Ma Sicong International Violin Competition held in Philadelphia, USA in 1991. He has also won several top scholarships from world-renowned music schools, music festivals including the Manhattan School of Music, the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, the Graduate School of Music of the University of Maryland, the Conservatory of Music of the Wayne State University, Waterloo Music Festival, Bowdoin International Music Festival, etc. Mr. Gao was a finalist for the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, the Oregon Symphony.

As of today, Jinsong Gao has been with the ASO for over 20 seasons, has performed under the direction of Richard Westerfield, Justin Brown, Carlos Izcaray, Christopher Confessore etc. As a chamber music player, soloist and guest concertmaster, Mr. Gao also appears in concerts in Asia and the Caribbean countries.
