Philip Copeland

Director, ASO Chorus

Philip L. Copeland has led the Alabama Symphony Orchestra Chorus in choral-orchestral masterworks since 2009. With the ASO Chorus, he has assisted in preparing diverse works that include recent performances of Caleb Burhans Psalm 23 (world premiere), Requiems of Faure and Verdi, Bach’s Magnificat and the annual performance of Handel’s Messiah.  

In addition to his work with the ASO, he is Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities at Samford University. Choirs under his direction have distinguished themselves on the national and international stage, winning significant awards in seven international competitions and performing concerts in three division conferences of the American Choral Directors Association and two gatherings of the National Collegiate Choral Organization. 

He is also Director of Music at South Highland Presbyterian Church and recently married to Tracy.  Together they raise their six children:Catherine Copeland (18), Caroline Copeland (18), Claire Copeland (18), Caroline Owens (18), Claire Owens (15), and Catelyn Owens (12)
