ASO Announces Executive Director!
(Birmingham, AL – January 22, 2018) – The Alabama Symphony Orchestra is proud to name Cheryle Caplinger the Executive Director of the ASO.
After a successful tenure as Interim Executive Director, Cheryle Caplinger has been formally named the next Executive Director of the ASO. She began with the ASO in 2016 as the Vice President of Marketing and Communications before taking on the role of Interim Executive Director for the 2017-2018 Season. Before that, Cheryle was the Director of Marketing and Communications at Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Engineering. She has over 15 years of leadership experience and a diverse background including artistic management, communications, public relations, marketing, and more. Cheryle is thrilled to continue Changing Lives Through Music throughout the state.
Dixon Brooke, Chairman of the Alabama Symphonic Association, said that the appointment “is in recognition of the fine job Cheryle has done leading the organization… She has assembled an excellent team and leads with a strong sense of commitment.”
Music Director Carlos Izcaray says, “I welcome Cheryle in her new role as Executive Director of our Alabama Symphony Orchestra. She has brought great positive energy to the team, and I look forward to working with her in bringing inspiring music to Birmingham and communities around the state.”
Since its founding in 1921, the Alabama Symphony Orchestra has grown to become the state’s premier performing arts organization and only full-time professional orchestra. The ASO inspires, entertains, and provides vital programming to the residents of the state, serving nearly 100,000 people yearly throughout Alabama through concert series, youth programs, and educational and community engagement efforts to fulfill our mission of changing lives through music. The ASO works to produce creative, dynamic programming and to be recognized as an artistically innovative leader in the field.
