Austin Han joins the Alabama Symphony Orchestra for the ’25-26 season. Prior to Birmingham, he was based in Portland, OR, where he enjoyed a freelance career. He’s been a substitute musician for the orchestras of Oregon, Chautauqua, Cincinnati, Cleveland, and New World.
Austin began his musical studies at age 15 under Catherine Van Hoesen of the San Francisco Symphony and Yizhak Schotten at the University of Michigan. He received his Master’s Degree under Stephen Wyrczynski at Indiana University, where he served as principal viola of the Symphony Orchestra. Other significant mentors include Victoria Chiang, Jorja Fleezanis, and Caroline Coade.
Apart from music, Austin is a prolific photographer and writer, featured in publications including International Musician, the University of Kentucky Press, and the Toledo Museum of Art.
