Eion Lyons
Eion Lyons joined the Alabama Symphony Orchestra bass section in December 2024. A Pennsylvania native, Lyons had a rich musical upbringing in a family deeply involved in musical theater, which led him to become a musician himself. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University, a Master’s Degree from Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, and an Artist Diploma from the Robert McDuffie Center for Strings. His principal teachers include world-renowned mentors Ira Gold, Jeffrey Turner, and Daniel Tosky. While at the McDuffie Center, Lyons triumphed in the Mercer University Concerto Competition and performed Serge Koussevitsky’s Concerto for Double Bass with the Macon-Mercer Symphony Orchestra.
Outside of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, Eion Lyons regularly performs as a substitute bass with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and has appeared as a guest musician with the Charleston Symphony. Beyond the orchestra, Lyons also enjoys performing with smaller chamber groups. Most notably, Lyons was featured in Mercer University’s acclaimed Fabian Concert Series, including a performance of the Bruch Octet alongside Paul Watkins, Lawrence Dutton, Tessa Lark, Amy Schwartz-Moretti, and Annie Fullard.
When not performing at the Alys Stephens Center, Eion Lyons enjoys spending time with his friends and living vicariously through F1 drivers.
