We love the symphony!

Join us as we enter the romantic journey conjured by famed composers whose work has stood the test of time. An Alabama Symphony Orchestra (ASO) concert mixes the old with the new for a riveting sensory experience. We stand behind the talented artists who share their gifts through our Symphony Volunteer Council (SVC). We are the face of the organization – greeting concert attendees, helping them find their seats, offering educational opportunities to youth, and hosting events for us to enjoy while we help keep the music playing.

Mission:

The Symphony Volunteer Council (SVC) serves to increase appreciation of classical music in the lives of our children and youth throughout our community and supports, strengthens, and enhances the influence of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra (ASO) through participation in educational activities and fundraising events.

Membership

Concerts, events, gatherings, luncheons and dinners – the Symphony Volunteer Council is great music paired with entertaining social events – all for the benefit of the symphony. When you join the Symphony Volunteer Council (SVC), you join a legacy of supporters of the arts, who come together for the greater good while engaging in cultural enrichment. We invite you to become a member of the SVC to join in the support of one of Alabama’s greatest treasures. You also help foster the love of music in our children and youth with our educational programs and fundraising events.

There are three levels of membership:

$45 per year – Individual Contributing Member (click here) to complete the membership form and pay online.
$75 per year – Joint Family Contributing Member (click here) to complete the family membership form and pay online.
$25 per year – Student Membership (click here) to complete the student membership form and pay online.

Volunteer Opportunities

Children and Youth Outreach Programs

The most beautiful music comes from our children and youth as they perform for us in competitions or play with their school orchestras and the Alabama Symphony Youth Orchestra (ASYO). These are the stars of the future and we have the privilege of supporting them by volunteering for and attending their performances. We also raise dollars for music education and scholarships for our summer music camps. The Lois Pickard Concerto Competition awards scholarship monies for the top winners.

When you wear the Volunteer badge at a concert, it is your opportunity to greet and chat with those attending the concert. So many diverse people walk through the door: families, students, groups, friends and patrons. A friendly smile, along with a program and flyer with upcoming events, helps to foster a warm environment for those who may be first-time concert-goers or patrons of many years.

Fundraising Events

Lois Pickard Scholarship Award Luncheon

Six winners emerge from the Lois Pickard Concerto Competition. They entertain the guests who attend the Lois Pickard Scholarship Award Luncheon with their talent – often good enough to rival the adults! This annual event is a favorite of music lovers and students who receive the scholarships. (click here). These are gifted young musicians ages 12 through high school.

Proceeds from this event goes toward scholarships for future competitions.
