Live music for patients, families, and caregivers, wherever healing happens.
Music has the power to comfort, inspire, and connect people during life's most challenging moments. Through Music Meets Medicine, the Alabama Symphony Orchestra brings live music directly to patients, families, and caregivers throughout our community, creating meaningful moments of joy, hope, and healing beyond the concert hall.
Originally launched in 2020 as a crisis response to support patients during the COVID-19 pandemic, Music Meets Medicine has grown into an enduring community engagement program that continues to bring the healing power of live music to healthcare environments throughout Birmingham.

Today, ASO musicians visit Children's of Alabama twice each month, presenting live performances in both the hospital's central performance space and its Behavioral Health Unit. These intimate concerts offer patients, families, and healthcare professionals an opportunity to pause, connect, and experience the uplifting power of live music firsthand.
Each December, ASO musicians also visit the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Alabama, presenting holiday performances that help bring comfort and celebration to families spending the season away from home while caring for hospitalized children.
Music Meets Medicine continues to grow as the Orchestra expands its partnerships. In the coming year, the ASO looks forward to launching performances at Baptist Health locations, reaching even more patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals across the region.

Beyond performances, the ASO is continually exploring new and meaningful ways to connect with healthcare communities through music, from interactive and educational experiences to innovative wellness initiatives and new collaborative relationships. Music Meets Medicine exists to enrich the lives of patients, families, caregivers, and medical staff while demonstrating the unique ability of music to foster healing, comfort, and human connection.
Since its inception, this program has reached hundreds of patients and families, reflecting the Alabama Symphony Orchestra's commitment to serving our community wherever music is needed most.

We are deeply grateful to Medical Properties Trust, Protective Life Corporation, and The Comer Foundation for their generous support of Music Meets Medicine and for helping make these performances possible.
