What is Legacy Giving?
Legacy giving, also called planned giving, means that you plan today for a gift tomorrow through your financial or estate plans. Legacy gifts support the future of the ASO, sustaining artistic excellence, funding music education programs, and improving access to the arts for Alabamians. A planned gift can also offer significant tax benefits to you and your loved ones.
Simple Ways to Give
A planned gift does not affect your current finances and does not have to be complicated. You can focus on your top financial priorities now and play a vital role in our future while honoring your passion for music. Every planned gift, of any size, is a meaningful contribution and lasting investment for the ASO.
With the help of an attorney, you can include language in your will or trust specifying a gift to be made to the ASO as part of your estate plan.
Complete a beneficiary designation form provided by your retirement plan custodian to donate part or all of your retirement assets, such as your IRA, 401(k), 403(b), pension, or other tax-deferred plan. If you designate ASO as a beneficiary, we will benefit from the full value of your gift.
If you are 70½ or older, you may be interested in a way to lower the income and taxes from your IRA withdrawals. An IRA charitable rollover allows you to help the ASO's mission.
If you have a life insurance policy that has outlasted its original purpose, consider making a gift of your insurance policy to the ASO.
Your property may be given to the ASO by executing or signing a deed transferring ownership. You may deed part or all of your property to the ASO, and your gift will generally be based on the property's fair market value.
If you are a business owner, a gift of your corporate stock or assets can provide you with tax and income benefits and help further our mission.
Special Naming Opportunities
There are opportunities to designate your legacy by naming ASO musicians’ chairs or vital programs. Endowed position and program names may also honor or memorialize someone you love.
Endowing a musician’s chair forges a deeper connection with the ASO and its players and represents important, ongoing patronage of musicians’ compensation and benefits as we aim to attract and support the best musicians and remain an orchestra of regional prominence.
Endowing our people, namely a leadership position, allows us to retain or recruit leaders who contribute significantly to the management and capacity of our vibrant cultural organization.
Endowing an ASO program or fund enhances the organization’s ability to work with artists, music, and institutions of the highest caliber, safeguarding the ASO’s means to develop first-rate performances and learning experiences for all
