Lucina Horner Cosby
Lucina Horner Cosby started playing the violin at age 9 and switched to the viola about 7 years later. She studied privately at the 92nd Street Y in New York City and attended the LaGuardia High School of Music and the Arts (the “Fame” School). At The Juilliard School of Music, she obtained a Bachelor’s Degree after which she studied with Mr. Robert Vernon (Principal Violist with the Cleveland Orchestra) at the Cleveland Institute of Music. During that time, she also participated in the Christmas Seminar with the late Alexander Schneider and the Cleveland Chamber Music Seminar. In 1985, Lucina joined the Oklahoma Symphony Orchestra for one year and in 1986 she won another audition, this time for the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra where she was in the viola section and after a few years, the Assistant Principal Violist as well as Acting Associate Principal Violist. Lucina was a member of the Phoenix Symphony for 10 years and then spent two years with the Colorado Symphony in Denver. She is currently a member of the Alabama Symphony since 1998 and teaches both viola and violin as well as chamber music. Other accomplishments include extensive substituting in the viola section of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra including for two international tours. Lucina’s summer activities include playing with the Grand Teton Music Festival in Jackson Hole, Wyoming as well as leading hike.
