Experience Russian music and dance together at Alabama Symphony Orchestra’s Concertmaster and Friends: Feathers and Fire — Russian Ballet Favorites, a chamber music concert featuring members of the Alabama Ballet at Canterbury United Methodist Church in Birmingham on Tuesday, May 11, 2027. Curated and led by Alabama Symphony Orchestra Concertmaster Daniel Szasz, this program pairs pianist Yakov Kasman, violinist Daniel Szasz, and cellist Warren Samples with Alabama Ballet dancers for a rare Birmingham performance of Russia’s great ballet music in an intimate chamber setting. The program draws from Tchaikovsky, Glazunov, Prokofiev, Khachaturian, and Stravinsky — five composers behind some of the most iconic ballet scores ever written — reimagined here for piano, violin, and cello rather than a full orchestra pit. A first for this season’s Concertmaster and Friends series, Feathers and Fire brings live choreography into the chamber setting, blending music and dance in the same intimate room. Hosted at Canterbury United Methodist Church, this concert gives Birmingham audiences a rare, up-close look at Alabama Ballet dancers performing alongside world-class musicians from Alabama Symphony Orchestra. Whether you’re drawn to Russian classical music, ballet, or both, this Concertmaster and Friends performance is shaping up to be one of the season’s most anticipated chamber concerts.
