Lucas Vogelman

Lucas Vogelman is a percussionist from Brooklyn, New York, and joins the Alabama Symphony in the fall of 2025. He is a May 2025 graduate of the New England Conservatory, where he earned a master’s degree in percussion, studying under the tutelage of Will Hudgins, Matt Mckay, and Dan Bauch. Prior to NEC, Lucas graduated from Rice University with a Bachelor of Music from the Shepherd School of Music in Houston, TX where he studied with Matt Strauss. Recent performance engagements include a performance of Bartok’s Music for Two Pianos and Percussion at NEC’s Jordan Hall, playing timpani with the Houston Symphony, and frequent performances with the Hartford Symphony. He also enjoys playing with Symphony New Hampshire, the New Bedford Symphony, and the Boise Philharmonic in Boise, Idaho. Lucas was a fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center for the summer of 2025, and in 2022 was a fellow at the Texas Music Festival in Houston, Texas, and at Festival Napa Valley in Napa, California. The summer of 2023 saw Lucas attend the Sewanee Summer Music Festival as the Dr. Stephanie Smith Principal Timpani Chair, where he had also performed as a soloist on Viet Cuong’s percussion quartet concerto Re(New)al in 2021. During his high school years, he attended the Juilliard Precollege division, studying with Jonathan Haas, Pablo Rieppi, and Eriko Daimo. He also attended Boston University Tanglewood Institute and Interlochen Arts Camp, and performed with the New York Youth Symphony. Outside of music pursuits, he worked as a mechanic at Ferris Wheels Bike Shop in Jamaica Plain and enjoys snowboarding, hiking, and mountain biking.
