Alabama Symphony Orchestra Presents Handel’s Messiah—A Timeless Holiday Masterpiece
BIRMINGHAM, AL – The Alabama Symphony Orchestra (ASO) invites the community to experience the musical majesty of George Frideric Handel’s beloved oratorio, Messiah, in its entirety in live performances December 19 and 20 at UAB’s Alys Stephens Center. This annual holiday tradition is set to inspire audiences with its spiritual depth and musical brilliance, featuring the iconic “Hallelujah” chorus.
Performance on a Grand Scale
This performance offers a rare opportunity to hear the Messiah presented with a full symphonic orchestra and elite chorus. Associate Conductor Daniel Cho will lead the full orchestra of more than 50 instruments that includes strings, trumpet, woodwinds, harpsichord, timpani and bassoon. A chorus of more than 100 voices features soloists from across the country: soprano Helen Huang, contralto Alissa Anderson, tenor David Tayloe and baritone Hadleigh Adams.
“The genius of Messiah lies in its ability to tell a universal story through music, from the moving solo arias to the spectacular force of the chorus and orchestra during the Hallelujah chorus,” says Conductor Daniel Cho. “This performance showcases the depth of the orchestra’s talent, and the venue, Jemison Hall at UAB’s Alys Stephens Center, provides exceptional acoustics .”
